§ 1
The Crusell Society is sponsoring an International Bassoon Competition in Uusikaupunki, Finland from July 24 to July 29, 2011. The competition is open for bassoonists of all nationalities born in or after 1981.

§ 2

§ 3
PRELIMINARY ROUND

The completed application form must be sent to the Competition Office to arrive by
April 7, 2011, 3 pm (local time). The following enclosures must accompany the signed application:

CV (Curriculum Vitae) and a recent photo
copy of birth certificate or passport
A CD recording of Henri Dutilleux’s Sarabande et Cortège played by the candidate. The name of the candidate is to be marked clearly on the CD.
A receipt of the paid registration fee of 35 €. The fee must be paid to the bank account of the Crusell Society: IBAN FI11 5491 0220 0193 06, SWIFT OKOYFIHH

The entrance fee is non-refundable.

§ 4
Candidates accepted for the competition will be informed latest on Friday May 6, 2011, After which the names of the accepted participants will be published on Crusell Week website. The Competition Committee will select competitors based on the CD and registration information.
A maximum of 40 participants will be accepted to the competition.

§ 5
The competitors will perform in the order determined by a lottery drawn by the Competition Committee. The order of the presentation will remain the same throughout the whole competition. The jury selects a suitable number of competitors for the following rounds, however max 10 competitors to the Semi-final Round and max 4 competitors to the Final Round.

The First Round takes place on Sunday July 24 and Monday 25. The competitors will be informed in the acceptance letter about their own designated day for the First Round. There is a scheduled rehearsal with the competitor’s appointed pianist the day before their designated day for the First Round performance. The competitors to play on the first day of the First Round, Sunday July 24, must arrive in Uusikaupunki on July 22 in the evening at the latest due to the accompaniment rehearsal on the following day. The competitors to play on the second day of the First Round, Monday July 25, must arrive in Uusikaupunki on July 23 in the evening at the latest due to the accompaniment rehearsal on the following day. This concerns participants who will use the accompanist provided by the competition organisers.

All participants are to register at the competition office or inform the organisers about their arrival at the latest on July 23, 2011, at 8 p.m.

§ 6

In the following repertoire list the editions mentioned in the First and Semi-final Round lists
are recommendations. In the Final Round the named editions must be used!


The First Round on Sunday, July 24 and Monday 25



1. One of the following pieces for bassoon and piano:

The Semi-final Round on Wednesday, July 27

The music will be sent by the competition organisation with the acceptance letter.

2. One of the following pieces for bassoon and piano:

Roger Boutry: Interférences I (Carisch)

3.   One of the following sonatas for bassoon and basso continuo:
Johann Friedrich Fasch: Sonata C major (Universal Edition)
Georg Philipp Telemann: Sonata e minor (Collection Litolff nr 5631)
Georg Philipp Telemann: Sonata f minor (Amadeus Verlag)
Antonio Vivaldi:Sonata IV B major RV 45 (Wiener Urtext Edition)
Antonio Vivaldi: Sonata IX g minor RV 42  (Wiener Urtext Edition)
The above-mentioned pieces will be played in the competition with harpsichord
and cello.

In the First Round and in the Semi-final Round the competitor is allowed to play the pieces
in the order of their choice.


The Final Round on Friday, July 29

The concertino will be played with the Virtuosi di Kuhmo chamber orchestra conducted by
Mr. Benoît Fromanger.

§ 8

The prizes are free of tax. Additional prizes may be awarded. The jury reserves the right to distribute the prizes differently. The winner will also be invited to perform during Crusell Week 2012.

§ 9
The competition rounds will be open to the general public. The organisers reserve the right to have the performances recorded, filmed, broadcast, videotaped or televised without any remuneration to the competitors.

§ 10
The Competition Committee will make a pianist available to each competitor for the First and Semi-final Round and the harpsichordist and the cellist for the Semi-final Round. The orchestra in the Final Round will be the Virtuosi di Kuhmo chamber orchestra. The organisers will appoint a pianist for each competitor and determine the rehearsal times. A competitor may optionally bring their own pianist, harpsichordist and cellist at their own expense.

§ 11
The prizes will be awarded at a Prize Giving Ceremony following the Final Round.

§ 12
The jury reserves the right to exclude a competitor who doesn’t accept these rules.
